Guiding you on your

birth and motherhood

Journey

Hi! My name is Karina

CERTIFIED BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULA

A Maternity Nurse, Birth & Postnatal Doula, and Certified Breastfeeding Support Specialist. I'm married and a proud mother of three wonderful daughters. As a married mother of three wonderful daughters, my journey into the world of maternal and infant care began with the profound changes motherhood brought.

Becoming a mother was the most positive and empowering experience of my life. It was during this time that I realised the profound importance of the support and care provided during pregnancy, birth, and postnatal. This realisation led me to become a Maternity Nurse and Birth & Postnatal Doula.

I'm passionate about supporting women to achieve a positive birth experience, which I believe is every woman's right. Women are amazing, and their bodies can do remarkable things. When women are supported in the right way and enabled to feel safe, secure, heard, and loved, childbirth can be an empowering and truly rewarding experience.

I am committed to providing unwavering support, guidance, and care to ensure that every individual I serve feels empowered and positive about their birthing and parenting journey. It's an honour to be part of this transformative period in the lives of families, and I look forward to supporting you on your unique path to parenthood.

At The Kente & Karing Doulas, we embrace tradition and love in our approach to maternal and infant care. It's an honour to be part of this transformative period in the lives of families, and I look forward to supporting you on your unique path to parenthood.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IS A DOULA ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO BIRTH PARTNER?

No! Absolutely not. Doula support is for everyone. It doesn't matter if you have a partner, how or where you want to birth.

KINDS OF BIRTHS I CAN SUPPORT YOU WITH.

I can support you throughout all types of birth. It doesn't matter if you are birthing at home or having an elective caesarean. Support, care and continuity is so important, however you birth.

CAN A DOULA REPLACE A MIDWIFE?

No, as a doula I am not medical so I do not replace any medical professional. I can talk and advocate but I do not perform any medical procedures or treatments.

WHAT ABOUT AFTER THE BIRTH?

After you have your baby I am still there for you. I can provide you with help feeding, making meals for you, light cleaning, basically I am there to nurture you.

ARE YOU ON CALL FOR OTHER PEOPLE AT THE SAME TIME?

No, I only take on one doula client in the same on call period.

WHEN DO YOU GO 'ON CALL'?

Normally we would go on call, so available 24/7 from 38 weeks gestation, but this can be tailored to your individual needs.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GO INTO LABOUR?

You would give me a call, we would have a chat on the phone and discuss if you wanted me to come down at that point or keep me updated. When I come down I am there to hold the space, to unconditionally support you. This could include things like making food, setting up a birth pool, ensuring your other children are okay, massaging you and creating an amazing birth space. I am also trained in various techniques to increase comfort throughout pregnancy, labour and birth. We would go through these in advance at our antenatal appointments.

DO YOU COME WITH ME TO HOSPITAL?

Yes, if you want me to. Obviously we would keep an eye on the relevant government guidance regarding birth partners and speak to the hospital/ trust if required in advance. If for some reason, I am not able to attend in person due to the guidelines, I am available and able to provide remote/ virtual doula support. This would be discussed at length in advance.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE ANTENATAL AND POSTNATAL APPOINTMENTS?

Antenatally, we would get to know you and you us. We would discuss your needs, options and go through ways to help you to feel more comfortable. We would answer any questions you have and provide you with evidence based information so you can make informed decisions.

Postnatally, we would support you with feeding (however you choose to feel), nurture you, give you space and time to restore and rest, cook you meals, run a hoover around, basically anything to help you feel good!

WHAT AREAS DO YOU COVER?

We cover within a 60 minute commute of Sutton, Surrey, Croydon, Kenley, Caterham, Coulsdon, Purley, Dulwich, Clapham & Brixton and anywhere in between, please contact me first if you are unsure.

Kind words

Happy Muslim mother embracing black baby sitting on father

“Karina has been an invaluable source of support and care for our family. As a Muslim family, we sought a doula who would not only understand our cultural and religious preferences but also provide the support and care that we felt was lacking during the birth of our previous child.

Karina not only listened to our needs but also ensured that our religious and cultural values were respected and incorporated into our birthing experience. Her unwavering commitment and dedication to our well-being were evident throughout. She went above and beyond to ensure that my wife received the care she deserved and that our family felt heard and respected.

With Karina’s support, we experienced a birth journey that was not only culturally sensitive but also empowering. We are profoundly grateful for her expertise and compassionate care during this significant chapter in our lives."
